Aetna Healthcare

Posted on February 18, 2010.
Aetna HealthcareCould someone tell me the difference between health care Cigna vs. Aetna?

I'll switch to Aetna Cigna next week because I recently got a new job and my new employer only offers Cigna. I tried to research the insurance company and found my dermatologist does not Cigna. However, it takes a lot of safeguards, including other Aetna, BC / BS and United / Oxford. This leads me to fear that Cigna is not that great. Does anyone have Cigna and if you could compare it to Aetna, it would be great. I'm healthy and I am especially interested in preventive care.

It can not be done. Both Cigna and Aetna have dozens of different plans. So you can compare a specific plan to Cigna Aetna specific plan, but you can not compare the two companies a blanket or a supplier perspective. It's like comparing Sony to Toshiba.

I think that covers less Cigna Aetna does. I do not know from experience, but I had a friend who, like you, had Aetna to Cigna, and now she must pay out of pocket for injections against allergies, prescription drugs, etc. can not say whether is the same for everyone though, because there are different levels of insurance for each company.

It may be that the reimbursement is contracted Cigna unless your doctor approves or able to accept - or their billing terms are excessive or complicated.

Both are good companies that respond to large employers with multi-state locations.

Large employers such as this usually dictate their own protection, it is society is not the insurer that says what will be covered.

Any of these companies should do the same with preventive care, but look at your plan booklet or all issues of customer service to know exactly what is covered. If you are not satisfied with what is covered, you are invited to file a complaint with the employer's HR or benefits dept. Often, complaints are the only way they can regularly measure employee satisfaction with the plan. They can tell the carrier to make changes if dissatisfaction with blankets.
