Dog Day Care Maryland

Posted on March 1, 2010.
Dog Day Care MarylandDog bites Maryland law?

My friend has a Labrador Retriever adult. It is fully developed and uncomfortable around other dogs. A neighbor let his dog often much lower off the leash (illegal outside of a dog park in Maryland) and the other day, the dogs have a confrontation. The little dog suffered minor injuries, none of which required extensive veterinary care. Now the owner is threatening to sue the family of my friend, unless they put down the Labrador. Thoughts?

Citation: MD CRIM LAW Âs 10-619

Reference: Code ®, Criminal Law, Âs 10-619

Summary: This Maryland law describes what is a dog "dangerous." As defined by law, it is a dog that without provocation has killed or inflicted serious injury to a person, or is a potentially dangerous dog that bites a person, when not on property of its owner, kills or inflicts severe injury on a domestic animal without provocation or attack. The owner of a dangerous dog shall keep the dog securely closed on its property or must contain the muzzle and the dog. A person who contravenes this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is liable to a fine not exceeding $ 2,500.

Can not continue if his dog was on leash and your dog has all vaccines, including rabies.

It is clear that the little dog was leashed. My question is is the labrador leash? Otherwise, the woman did not have a leg to walk, she was already in error by having his dog off leash.

The labrador does not attack without provocation. The lab, obviously uncomfortable with the dog rushng him. It is the womans fault for small dogs (if the laboratory was on a leash)

I would propose to pay only 1 / 2 of his bill vet, but I would not put the dog down. It his fault it happened.

He said without provocation - whether the dogs ran to your friends and the dogs began barking and nipping him, so I think if the dog felt threatened so it's fair game. I do not think it's still OK when the dogs fight, but the fact is that they are animals. The woman should not have had his dog leash and assumes no liability if something were to happen because of their not being on a leash. I would tell your friend to contact any possible witness in the case that this woman is a lawyer. My dogs are well socialized and well behaved, but if they were kept on a leash and barking dogs in charge, you can bet they defend.
