Health Insurance Online

Posted on January 28, 2010.
Health Insurance OnlineWhat are the disadvantages of buying insurance online rather than through a broker?

In your experience, what are the advantages / disadvantages of buying a health insurance plan online vs. offline? Does anyone have recommendations on good places to buy and which sites I should avoid?

This site can help you compare many health insurance companies in your state

Hope this helps,

Regarding the price and selection are probably not much. Another common question is "what is the difference between using a broker and the direct purchase of the insurance company and, again, not much (that is, the price will be Similarly, no matter where you buy). The advantage of using a broker - online or in person - is that using a broker, you (1) probably someone who has multiple plans and companies to show you and (2) have your best interests at heart, not the insurance company (because it's you "happy" to continue to earn your business and its commission).

Back to your original question: online or live? "Really, personal preferences. Some people are more comfortable sitting and talking with someone, others would prefer to deal by e-mail and telephone.

Best "points to win" deal with someone who is a member of Nahu, who is the profesional association of insurance brokers who specialize in health insurance (individual and corporate plans).

Hopefully this helps a little!

When you buy online you buy through a broker, unless you go directly to the carrier. Make sure you're dealing with a reputable dealer and check the About Us "section of their website to ensure they have a physical address listed and you are not a lead firm that wants to sell your private information.

That said, facing a small broker and not a large company where you're not dealing with the owners of the company that has 10-20 years experience.

Going through a broker is better than going direct because direct does not give you any savings and they do not know the competition. Also, in general, a broker has pulled out the insurance company representing the internal.

There's really no downside. If you go through a broker, that person becomes your agent. Just as your automobile insurance agent. They can help you with any questions you may have to answer any questions you may have regarding your policy. The premium is the same.
To purchase the company is directly fine too, its really a personal preference.

Never buy online. See an insurance broker who handles business and mutiple plans. It costs nothing to give you some options.
