Is this a valid argument for the ears? From http://www.desertlegend.us/faq.htm :
Q. Do I get their ears cut off? It seems that it hurts the dog.
R. We strongly recommend that you get the ears cut off.
1.) What gives your dog that "Dobermann" look. This prevents people
you have a "Doberman" for your personal protection.
2.) Culture of the ear protects your investment. If something changes in your life and
you should sell your dog, you can get more money and sell the dog easier - allowing it to better home too. "
Part 2 is an argument in favor of culture that I've never heard before, and it really makes sense to me. Currently the ads are most used in my state, there are four adult dobermans sale. All four are recorded, and one is cropped. The three dogs are uncropped offered $ 375, $ 475, and it is not listed, but I know the owner of this dog, and will be divested for approximately $ 500 for the perfect home. Then there is the dog crop that is listed at $ 1,500. That's four times the price of cheaper uncropped dog!
Putting aside any idea of culture protect your investment in a dog, do you think a grown dog has a better chance of living a dog uncropped whether to find a new home? People who spend more to buy dogs to provide better homes for these dogs? Could culture is like an insurance policy for a Doberman and he always wanted to be treated well by someone for a lifetime?
I do know some farmers who say they do not crop a dog for a variety of reasons, but one of them is that if for some reason they get the dog (it is the farmers who will have the dog at any age, for whatever reason), it is more difficult to place the dog into a new house if the ears are not made.
You do not buy a dog as an investment. Cropping is a brutal form of mutilation. My great-uncles Boston Terrier breed for many years and did not dock tails or ears cultures. They bred dogs with care for the health of the breed.
Why would you put a dog through the pain, if you had the choice?
Well, I just checked petfinder.com and almost all there was on Dobe ears cut off, so obviously it did not help their chances at all.
If I personally had a Doberman, I would cut the ears and tail cut. I have no problem with people going to the vet and have it done professionally. But that's just me:)
People love dogs for companionship and personality over looks. Harvest Dobermans ears is only for looks and nothing more. Unless you fight against the dogs what is wrong. A person wishing to treat a dog a good dog. If they want that they wont get
As someone who supports the decision of someones culture of their dogs, I find these arguments very small - and simply pathetic.
Just as there are people who prefer the look cultivated (me) there are also people who are so vehemently against it, they use words like "mutilation" and "torture" when it is no more painful than other elective surgeries performed on dogs, there will always be people looking for a light or another, and so having a dog using either cropped or hurts your chance to find a house and is certainly not an excuse to levy an exorbitant amount when you can not take care of your pet.
They seem like reason enough for me strange.
1. It gives the dog that "looks Dobermann"?
Is it not look like a Dobe if his ears are intact? Seriously, if you can not say that it is a Dobe simply because his ears were left alone, go back and do more research.
2. "Protect your investment.
My dog is not an investment, it is.
