Wedding Public Liability Insurance

Posted on January 12, 2010.
Wedding Public Liability InsuranceLiability insurance for a wedding reception?

The place where I hold my wedding reception I was asked to provide liability insurance. I do not own a business how I am supposed to have liability insurance? Please suggest.

You certainly need to call your insurance agent about it. Many homeowners insurance policies do not cover this type of event, at no additional cost, because it is already covered by Part personal liability policy. But this is not universal, some companies do not include off-lease of premises.

If you do not have a policy or homeowners policy owners who do not cover off your premises (away from your place of residence) of receipt, the cost will be near $ 500. with an additional premium if alcohol is served.

If you placed your car or home insurance through an insurance broker, then return to the same broker and tell him you need a "case where liability" policy (no direct perpetrators not make such a policy, so if you went through a direct insurer mails the Yellow Pages). This policy will cover an event, with or without liquor liability. This type of policy can last from one day to several days . The premium for this type of variable because it is affected by things like the type of event (ie wedding, sporting event, charity concerts, trade shows, etc.), the number of people attending; if event is open to the public; If something is sold at the event, if the liability of alcohol. I sold this type of policy for $ 150 (including liquor liability) for a small private party ( least 100 people) and I sold this type of policy $ 1,100 (four art festival day of performance that was opened to the public where alcohol was sold), so you can see the prices may vary. Be aware that if this is a small group (less than 30 people) and no alcohol is provided any personal lines insurer would extend liability to cover such events. It is too risk to the insurer of individuals.

If you are in Australia - you can have an extension of coverage under your Home Contents policy of accidents that occur while you are away from the insured property. This may answer, unless they want you to get involved special event coverage.

This seems a very strange request to me. If someone decides to sue you over the injuries they receive during the marriage (ie, tripped on a chair), etc. - I do not know why the place to worry about this? It's not like they will be involved? if someone tries to give you a trial because a part of the site has fallen on his head, then this would be the responsibility of the owner of the site - and they (or should) have their own coverage??

I would contact an insurance broker, to the terms and conditions of lease with you and let them take a look and advise you further.

You can obtain event insurance, but will probably cost $ 750. You can check with your insurance company owner. They may provide accountability, free of charge.

There is no need for public liability insurance, but do I check that they are.
